High brightness Sources and light driven interaction Congress / Compact (EUV & X-ray) Light Sources

From March 26 to 28, 2018 at Strasbourg

Emerging, compact extreme-ultraviolet and x-ray sources that exhibit high brightness and are small enough to be installed in laboratories at educational and research institutions, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, and other suitable sites, will revolutionize scientific and technical disciplines, complementing both existing and future large scale synchrotron radiation and free-electron laser sources. Applications span a wide range including biomedical, semiconductor manufacturing, fundamental and applied research, environmental engineering, industrial non-destructive testing and screening, and defense and security.

The aim of the Compact EUV and X-ray Light Source meeting is to assemble experts in both source technologies and their applications to present and exchange ideas and improve community wide understanding of current and future source capabilities, and current and future application needs. At this meeting the latest results in the development of these sources will be presented as well as descriptions of efforts to mature the technology so that they meet the requirements needed in order to transition the technology to industrial and medical applications. Conference topics will include relevant applications and source concepts and technologies in the EUV through hard-ray regime.

The collocation with the High-Intensity Sources and High-Field Phenomena (HILAS) meeting provides a unique opportunity to expand interaction with multidisciplinary groups that shares a broad range of interests and goal.

Offre d’emploi accélérateurs à la DAM Ile de France

Le CEA DAM recherche un physicien/ingénieur pour le développement, la gestion et la maintenance de deux accélérateurs :
un Van de Graaff, 4MV et un tandem 7MV, permettant notamment de produire des faisceaux de neutrons.
Profil souhaité : De bonnes connaissances et compétences en système de mesure physique et de contrôle commande des accélérateurs, en électronique analogique et numérique, en détection des rayonnements, en traitement du signal et en automatisme. Une première expérience dans une installation expérimentale.

Junior Professorship (W1) in Accelerator Physics

The Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University is seeking to fill the position of a

Junior Professorship (W1) in Accelerator Physics

with immediate effect. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research and teach­ing in the field of physics, particularly the physics of particle accelerators and synchrotron light sources.

The professorship is associated with the Cen­ter for Synchrotron Radiation which operates the 1.5-GeV electron storage ring DELTA as a synchrotron light source. Moreover, the stor­age ring in combination with a femtosecond laser system and modern instrumentation offers excellent opportunities for conducting cutting­edge accelerator physics research. One example is the generation of ultrashort radiation pulses in the vacuum-ultraviolet and terahertz regime.

Applicants are expected to have completed a doctoral degree in physics (or a closely related field) with very good marks. They have suc­cessfully conducted independent research in the field of accelerator physics and are pre­pared to participate in the operation and fur­ther development of DELTA. They are also willing to shape and actively participate in future research collaborations. Experimental work experience with synchrotron light sources and free­electron lasers as well as the opera­tion of lasers at accelerator facilities is appre­ciated.

A commensurate level of participation in teach­ing within the physics and medical physics programs as well as supervision of doctoral research is required, as is the assumption of certain academic administrative tasks. Appli­cants should also have the capacity for social competence and leadership.

Preconditions for employment are specified in § 36 HG of the State of NRW. The initial ap­pointment will be for a period of three years with an evaluation in the third year. Following a positive evaluation, the appointment will be extended for a further three years.

Workshop ARW 2017 : fiabilité des accélérateurs

Nous sommes heureux d’annoncer la tenue du sixième workshop sur la fiabilité des accélérateurs, ARW 2017. Le workshop est organisé par le synchrotron SOLEIL avec le support de l’ESRF, du GANIL, de l’Institut Curie et de la Société Française de Physique et sa division Accélérateurs.

Le workshop se déroulera du 15 au 20 octobre 2017 à Versailles. Il succède aux précédentes éditions organisées à l’ESRF (Grenoble, 2002), TRIUMP (Vancouver , 2009), iThemba (Cap Town, 2011), le synchrotron australien (Melbourne, 2013)  et SNS (Knoxville, 2015).

Les workshops de la série ARW permettent de ressembler la communauté mondiale des accélérateurs de particules afin de partager leur expérience opérationnelle, de discuter de maintenance, analyse de risque et fiabilité. Les participants ont l’opportunité de partager problèmes, solutions et retours d’expériences.
